Breeding Goals

Breeding Goals

Goal: Does that are structurally correct and a easy on th eyes.

The herd is evaluated for structural correctness through the ADGA Linear Appraisal program. Each doe is compared to an “ideal mature doe,” so younger animals usually earn lower scores and improve as they reach full maturity around five years old. In 2025, the nationwide average score was 84.7 (Good). Less than 10% of registered dairy goat herds participate in Linear Appraisal. These are typically herds that show and/or participate in the Association's Performance Programs, essentially an elite group. Of that group's appraised animals, approximately 1% earn 90 (Excellent), with no Nigerians receiving a 94. Linear trait trends analysis

Goal: Does that are productive and healthy throughout their working lives

When milk is tested at a lab, they use tenth of a pound increments. Owlhaven first fresheners are expected to produce approximately 3 pounds at peak production. The production range for our mature does is 4-6 pounds. More than this is uncomfortable for the goat (think DDD bra) and increases the likelihood of mastitis.
