Terms and Conditions
Owlhaven's goal is customer satisfaction through fair and ethical business practices. With that in mind, the following policies seek to create a “no surprises” experience for our customers. These policies are subject to change/modification should I encounter a new problematic situation.
- GOAT REQUEST FORM:
- All animals are offered for sale only to approved homes.
- Potential buyers must complete the Goat Request Form.
- KIDDING SEASON:
- SIRES: The choice of sires is subject to change.
- DISBUDDING AND VACCINATIONS: Kids are sold with their first CDT shot and disbudded (dehorned), unless they are polled. No exceptions.
- TATTOOS: I do not tattoo kids. Why? Because kids can absorb the tattoos. I tattoo AND microchip when it is time for a goat's first Linear Appraisal.
- TRANSPORTING YOUR KIDS: Kids should be transported within a vehicle to avoid shocking them. I will not allow kids to be transported in open pickup beds.
- HOUSING: Nigerian kids are delicate and require warm, clean, dry shelter with good ventilation. Mine live in pens in either a "garage" or my kidding barn. Within the barn they have small doghouses to go into for additional warmth and shelter. Would you put a young puppy out in the weather? Probably not. Use the same caution when caring for your kids. Reservations will not be accepted unless appropriate housing is available at the time that the reservation is made.
- PICKING UP KIDS:
- Males MUST be picked up by 35 days of age or boarding fees will apply. This is due to limitations in pen space. At that time they are being bottle fed two times a day.
- Males purchased AFTER 35 days of age must be picked up within 7 calendar (not working) days of the sale or boarding fees will apply.
- Females must be picked up by 56 days of age or boarding fees will apply.
- Females purchased AFTER 56 days of age must be picked up within 7 calendar days of the sale or boarding fees will apply.
- Alternate arrangements can be made under limited circumstances.
- WETHERS (neutered males/pet goats):
- Pricing
- Wethers are priced at $200 each or 2/$300.
- When sold as a companion to a buck or doe they are $150 each.
- A $100, non-refundable, service fee per kid is required to hold your wether(s) until pickup.
- This fee is fully applicable to the purchase price.
- HOWEVER, it is a service fee and is nonrefundable should you cancel your purchase.
- The balance is due in cash upon pickup.
- Pick up: see #6 above.
- Wether prices are discounted to $150 when they are picked up prior to 14 days of age.
- Milk replacer is available for purchase for your kid to get him started.
- NEUTERING:
- Please make arrangements to have your veterinarian neuter your wethers when they are at least 4 months of age.
- I use Creekside Veterinary Services (Escondido) and Temecula Creek Equine.
- I no longer provide banding services for the following reasons: (1) may result in urinary calculi, (2) it may result in tetanus, and (3) people (esp. kids) freak out when the body part starts detaching.
- Pricing
- RETAINED KIDS: Owlhaven reserves the right to retain first choice kids from any litter.
- PRICING (BREEDING STOCK): Prices may change depending on the quality of the doe's mammary upon kidding.
- Pricing starts at $550.
- Reservation fees lock in your price.
- Waitlist does not lock in your price.
- POLLED: add $100 to the price. Why? Because I'm tired of people passing on great animals b/c they want polled or blue eyes. I'm a business person, prices are based on principles of supply and demand. If the market demands polled and/or blue eyes and the supply is limited, the market will have to pay extra.
- BLUE EYES: add $100 to the price. Why? See above.
- MOONSPOTS: free!
- NAMING: Owlhaven reserves the right to name any and all registered kids. Buyers may submit three choices for my consideration. However there are no guarantees that I will select a buyer-chosen name.
- PHOTOS: I am not currently providing photos of kids. It's very time consuming and rarely representative of how the kid will mature. Please refer to the photos of sire and dam on the website and any performance pedigree information when making your decisions. SERIOUS Buyers may make an appointment to meet their desired kid via Zoom or Google Meets.
- SALE GOAT MEET AND GREET: Please refer to photos on the website and performance pedigree information when making purchasing decisions. Videos or Google Meet meetings can be made available to serious buyers only. There are three reasons for this (1) my insurance does not cover farm visits, (2) on too many occasions people have treated this as an opportunity to load the family in the van (sometimes neighbors too) and visit the petting zoo, and (3) exposure to pathogens.
- RESERVATIONS:
- SERVICE FEES: A $100 reservation fee gives a client receives priority selection over waitlist clients.
- This is a service fee, not a deposit, and is non-refundable except in specific, limited circumstances.
- The fee can be applied to your purchase and can be carried forward to the next year or refunded if a doe does not fill your order.
- A reservation is a commitment to purchase, so if you decide not to purchase the offered animal, your reservation fee will be forfeit.
- ALLOWABLE RESERVATIONS: Reservations will only be made on the basis of gender (e.g., buck or doe).
- BLUE EYES: No reservations will be made for blue eyed kids. Should you ONLY want a blue eyed kid, please add yourself to a waitlist.
- POLLED: No reservations will be made for polled kids. Should you ONLY want a polled kid, please add yourself to a waitlist.
- BUYER REJECTED KIDS: Should a buyer choose not to accept a kid that fills an order (e.g., buckling or doeling out of doe X), the reservation fee will be forfeit and not be refunded or carried forward.
- NO kids with disqualifying defects will be offered as breeding stock.
- SERVICE FEES: A $100 reservation fee gives a client receives priority selection over waitlist clients.
- WAITLIST: There is no fee to be put on a waitlist, however individuals who paid a reservation fee get first choice.
- DEPOSITS:
- No animals will be held without payment of a 50% deposit. Deposits will hold an animal for 14 calendar days.
- Any reservation fees paid will be applied to the purchase price.
- After notification of the availability of a kid, the buyer has 48 hours to pay the deposit before the kid will be offered to the next person in line.
- FINAL PAYMENT: Full payment is required within 14 calendar days of deposit and before pickup of the animal(s).
- FORMS OF PAYMENT:
- I prefer Venmo for reservation fees and deposits. This is to support tracking payments and is to the buyer's benefit as well.
- Cash is preferred for final payments.
- Payments made by Zelle or Venmo must be made 10 business days in advance of pickup to ensure that they clear the bank. I do not accept PayPal or Checks.
- VIDEOS: Are available upon request.
- PAST DUE BALANCES: If agreed-upon payments are not made when due, the sale will be cancelled unless other arrangements have been agreed-upon in writing.
- BALANCES DUE: Goats will not be released from the farm until all monies due are paid in full.
- BUYER CANCELLATIONS: In event that a buyer cancels a sale: (1) any reservation fees will be forfeit and (2) a relisting fee amounting to 20% of the total purchase price will be charged, (3) the remaining funds will be returned to the buyer.
- PICK UP: Purchased goats must be picked up within 14 calendar days of deposit or boarding fees will be applied.
- BOARD:
- Regular board: $5.00 per day
- Kidding pens: $20 per day
- Lactating does: $20 per day
- Bottle kids: $10 per day
- BREEDING:
- Should a client prefer that a doe be bred before pickup, a $100 stud fee applies.
- This includes one driveway rebreeding if necessary.
- BUYER is responsible for ensuring that the doe is in a standing heat when coming to the farm for rebreeding.
- Boarding fees apply if the goat remains on the property for over 14 calendar days post-receipt of deposit.
- ULTRASOUNDS are $30 each.
- DEATH OF GOAT: In the unlikely event that a goat dies before it is picked up by the buyer, amounts paid will be applied to another available (offered for sale) animal or refunded at buyer's request.
- GUARANTEES:
- Goats are guaranteed to be healthy; CAE, CL, and Johnes free at the time of sale.
- BUYERS have the right to have the animal(s) examined by a veterinarian prior to leaving Owlhaven. A full reimbursement for testing and refund of the deposit will be provided if the veterinarian certifies in writing that the goat has a disqualifying illness (e.g., CAE). Should the illness/injury be repairable, Owlhaven will reimburse the testing expense and hold the animal until it is fully recovered. In such cases, no boarding fees will be charged.
- If BUYER waives this right of a pre-purchase veterinary exam, no refund will be offered if the goat becomes ill or dies after the BUYER receives possession of the purchased goat.
- Doe fertility is not guaranteed, and refunds are not given, except in the case of veterinarian-documented hermaphroditism. Keep in mind that some does require extra time to become mature enough to breed, and may not settle until they are two years old.
- Buck fertility is guaranteed.
- At one year of age, bucks should be able to settle a doe.
- The buyer MUST notify Owlhaven within 60 days of first being used to breed does.
- A veterinarian MUST certify in writing that your buck is sterile.
- The buyer is expected to provide reasonable care and feed.
- If the animal has been neglected, we guarantee nothing.
- We have the option of making a satisfactory exchange or refunding the money.
- In no case shall we be responsible for more than the selling price.
- Animals that are exchanged are done so at the purchasers expense.
- We require the original registration papers returned in an animal exchange.
- We do not guarantee any animal that is sold without registration papers.
- A doe sold as “bred” is not guaranteed to be pregnant, but only to have been exposed to a buck. Depending on management, does (like people) can miscarry (see #5, below).
- Owlhaven Farm does not guarantee future performance of purchased goats, as the farm has no control over the conditions under which the goats are maintained by the purchaser.
- CONDITIONS OF SALE: Sales are at the seller’s discretion and will only be made to good homes, criteria include: (1) Appropriate and adequate food and water, (2) Safe and adequate shelter from sun and rain, (3) Safe and secure fencing, protection from escape and predators (dogs eat goats), (4) Companionship – goats need other goats! I reserve the right to cancel a sale if any of the above are not met -- this includes situations where pickup is delayed due to lack of preparation on the buyer's part.
- OWLHAVEN CANCELLATION: Owlhaven has the right to cancel a sale for any reason. For example, I've cancelled transactions due to poor communication, lack of preparation to receive purchased goat, and behavior/attitude. Should the sale be cancelled, monies paid will be refunded.
- ALL SALES ARE FINAL. No further guarantees are expressed or implied. Owlhaven has no control over the care provided to goats after they leave the farm and therefore is not responsible for their health and well-being after they leave the farm.
- CAVEAT EMPTOR: Buyers are responsible for their purchasing decisions.
- Buyers may request a pre-purchase veterinary exam (see #19) at their own expense.
- ALL buyers will be required to sign a health waiver form prior to taking possession of their goat.
- FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL: Should a buyer need to rehome an Owlhaven goat after taking possession, Owlhaven will consider repurchase for the same price paid to the farm, plus additional increments based on any recognition (LA, milk stars, legs towards permanent championships) following Owlhaven's pricing schedule. Disease testing is required, reasonable expenses will be paid by Owlhaven.
- CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Buyers of Owlhaven-bred goats are provided with ongoing customer support. This support takes two forms: (1) Client pages on my website and (2) personalized service. Before requesting personalized service, please review my website to see if the answer is there.
